Freedom Forum marked this year's International Press freedom Day with
various programs. In this connection, a special function was held on
May 2, on the eve of the International Press Freedom Day to discuss the
situation of Nepali press and honor a couple of best columnists writing
on the theme of democracy, press freedom, and freedom in general.

Nepal's troubled public security sector requires urgent reforms if it
is to effectively maintain law and order in the country. This was the
conclusion of a discussion hosted by Freedom Forum in Birgunj on 07
May, entitled 'Nepal's public security system: roles and reforms'.

Representatives of the civil society and various political parties,
intellectuals, journalists, community leaders and human rights
activists have stressed the need for making the public security policy
consistent with the times, practical and effective by bringing about
changes in the thinking of the security bodies and society and by
freeing the security agencies from political interference.

this regard, Freedom Forum organized a roundtable discussion on media
law and policy reform in the capital on Monday, June 04, 2007.
Training for Journalists on Court Reporting

With a view to contribute to skill development of journalists reporting
on court or legal affairs, Freedom Forum has begun a five-day-long
training on legal reporting in the capital from Tuesday, June 19, 2007.
