Freedom Forum is stunned at the report of killing of Birendra Shah,
a journalist from Bara district, Nepal, who had been abducted last
month. At this unfortunate moment, we express our sincere condolences
to the bereaved family members and all others concerned.
Nepal: Right to Information Act Analysed

ARTICLE 19, Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) and FREEDOM FORUM
released their analysis of the Nepalese Right to Information Act 2007
today. The adoption of the Act last year was an important step in
giving practical effect to the Interim Constitution’s guarantee of the
right to information. The Act is generally a progressive piece of
legislation. At the same time, we have several recommendations to bring
the law into line with better international standards and practices.

Freedom Forum, the leading organization in the Right to Information (RTI) movement in Nepal, welcomes the formation of National Information Commission (NIC) however it came into existence after 10 months of the promulgation of much-awaited Right to Information Act-2007 and, at the same time, expresses dissatisfaction regarding the time, formation process and persons appointed in the post of commissioners of NIC.
Nepal In a Republic Formally

Nepalese are all excited about the first meeting of the Constituent
Assembly on May 28 when the country will formally declare a republic.
We are looking forward to a huge celebration to mark the epochal event
in Nepal’s history. We hope the newly elected CA members do not
disappoint Nepali by delaying the important announcement.
