Regulation Amendment Curtails Freedom of Expression

The Nepal government has recently amended the Film Regulation-2057 BS (2001 AD) specifying the mandatory provisions of seeking approval from Film Development Board before making, casting and distributing any type of film including cinema, documentary, cartoon film, visual aid, animated visuals and film drama. The government seems to have developed controlling mechanism on film production by imposing such provisions which will mount negative impact on the overall situation of freedom of expression in Nepal.

Nepal: Right to Information Act Analysed

ARTICLE 19, Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) and FREEDOM FORUM released their analysis of the Nepalese Right to Information Act 2007 today. The adoption of the Act last year was an important step in giving practical effect to the Interim Constitution’s guarantee of the right to information. The Act is generally a progressive piece of legislation. At the same time, we have several recommendations to bring the law into line with better international standards and practices.
